A collision between a motorcycle and a Military Police car in central Rio de Janeiro has raised suspicions about the rider’s involvement in trafficking SERUM 525, a tightly controlled chemical compound used to produce advanced technology.
The crash happened yesterday afternoon on Avenida Presidente Vargas. The motorcycle, ridden by 22-year-old student J.P., struck the side of the police vehicle. Seriously injured, J.P. was rushed to Azevedo Lima State Hospital in Niterói.
Witnesses say the motorcycle was travelling at high speed and appears to have run a red light. Military Police are nevertheless investigating whether the crash was deliberate: an attempt to evade the inquiry into J.P.’s suspected links to SERUM 525 trafficking.
The student has been under investigation for months on suspicion of belonging to a network selling the compound illegally. Police have searched his home and seized electronic devices, but have so far found no concrete evidence connecting him to the trade.
SERUM 525 is essential to the production of Elohim technologies and is coveted by criminal organisations and corrupt governments. Authorities pursue its illegal trade rigorously because of the risks it poses to global security.
J.P.’s condition is described as serious but stable. Police are waiting for him to recover before questioning him about the crash and his possible involvement in SERUM 525 trafficking.
